This kit is packaged together to help to resolve issues with TVs or other equipment that either (a) do not accept 240p over YPbPr or (b) process 240p YPbPr in such a way that results in color distortions, unacceptable lag times, or sensitivity to sync jitter. Unlike YPbPr video standards, 240p timing signals over HDMI are clearly defined (CEA-861) and are an acceptable format for many HDMI capable TVs and devices, especially newer equipment. However, since it is not required by the HDMI specification for devices to accept this format, there is no guarantee that all equipment will function correctly with this adapter.
The included PS2-to-HDMI adapter functions by taking the native YPbPr from the PS2 console and converting it to HDMI. This kit gives you the tools to extend this adapter to use any generic YPbPr input instead of just the PS2. The PS2 connector plugs into the circuit board which has connectors for the two included breakout cables. Just connect the breakout cables by matching up the colors, and then connect your YPbPr device to the RCA jacks. You also need to connect an HDMI cable (not included) from this adapter to your TV or device. Once everything is connected, power needs to be applied to the adapter via the Mini USB port. You can either connect the included Mini USB cable to a USB port on your TV, or connect it to a 5V USB wall charger (not included).
We have exhaustively searched many avenues to find a product that performs this function, and came across many dead-ends. Almost all affordable YPbPr-to-HDMI converter boxes on the marker reject 240p YPbPr. The unique thing about the included PS2-to-HDMI adapter is that it can perform the YPbPr-to-HDMI 240p passthrough function, which is very rare. Another caveat is that, although the outside looks the same, not all PS2-to-HDMI adapters have the same guts inside. We had to track down the exact revision which exhibits this functionality, and that is what is included in this kit.
NOTE: Due to the circuit board being an early prototype, the fit between it and the PS2 connector might seem a little tight and could require a bit of force.
